ZOE CROWHURST

I was born and raised in a rural town in Northern California. I am the oldest sibling and cousin in my family and began officially babysitting at the age of 11. As I grew older, babysitting became one of my main jobs.

I attended Ruth Asawa high school for the Arts in San Francisco. I then went on to study film at SVA in New York City. As a college student, I was lucky enough to nanny for a handful of amazing families. I hold a BFA in Film documentary and have studied early childhood development and education throughout my life. My first teaching position was during summer in college at a Waldorf inspired preschool in Marin County, California. Later in the lower East side of Manhattan, I taught part time at Children’s Liberation Preschool and K-2 art classes at PS19 in the east village. During my early adult life, I worked in documentary film and enjoyed it tremendously.

After having my own two children (now middle schoolers), my husband had I returned to Point Reyes, CA and I took a break from filmmaking. When my son was old enough to attend preschool, I became a substitute teacher at his preschool and also taught art to PK&K at San Domenico School, California’s oldest independent school. Once I started teaching, I never looked back! For seven years before starting Little Sparrows, I had the joy of co-teaching, then directing, Huckleberry Forest Preschool in Inverness, CA.

Four years ago, my dream of owning my preschool became a reality. I bought the business and renamed it Little Sparrows. Little Sparrows, CA, thrived from day one. We had a vibrant program, infant to 7y, with a waitlist we capped at three years in advance. Our school community far outreached the preschool itself. To this day, one of my favorite things is to receive a picture of my students visiting together! Leaving my program was bittersweet, but I am so excited for our new chapter in Deerfield!
